Welcome to My World🍃🧚🏾‍♀️

I am Surprise, a storyteller, singer and creative spirit exploring the intersections of art, beauty and truth. My journey flows through many forms; music, writing, creative modeling and sharing lived experiences with others who walk this path of growth and self-discovery. Kwa mtandao, including here on this blog, I open windows into my world: the rhythm of my thoughts, the lessons of my journey, and the quiet strength found in both vulnerability and resilience. I believe that every image, every rhyme, every lyric and every reflection carries the power to heal, to connect and to remind us of our shared humanity. My work is deeply rooted in African philosophy, personal transformation and creative expression . Whether through my writings, reflective posts, music or performance, I aim to create a space where art feels alive, where it isn’t just seen or heard, but felt . This blog is an extension of that vision; a place where words stretch beyond, where stories unfold, and where cre...

Along the Milky Way

Clip, Clop He comes riding down, Along the milky way. Swish, Swash She comes cutting through, Along the milky way. Well, you know, black people... Breathtaking! The imprints of the mysteries Delicately, yet strongly Embedded in the star dust, That is skin! Well, you know, black people... Mind boggling! The wires intertwining, vibing Securely, soundly Anchored in, casting live! In Bey's words: If you feel insignificant, you better think again Better wake up because you're part of something way bigger You're part of something way bigger Not just a speck in the universe Not just some words in a bible verse You are the living word Ahh, you're part of something way bigger Bigger than you, bigger than we Bigger than the picture they framed us to see But now we see it And it ain't no secret, no Clip, Clop He comes riding down, Along the milky way. Swish, Swash She comes cutting through, Along the milky way Let us journey along! by Nyagoha😚

SOLITUDE

I've been wondering, do other people also go through these phases that I go through. I really do not want to term them as 'depressive' phases, but for lack of a better word. Something else that I am wondering, if it is so that majority of people go through these phases, how often do they occur? Because I am seated here feeling like this is now getting boring. I better snap out of it. Just realized that me feeling like this is a projection of societal expectations. "Kwani wewe huwa unago through it kila saa?!" But then I literally cannot just snap out of it. Plus it is not as bad as it sounds. Na sii Kila saa. I am always in awareness when going through these phases. Also, I just realized that they occur when I have been pouring too much into other people's cups, and I am in dire need of solitude.  In all honesty, I do enjoy the solitude. Because it leaves me to my thoughts and the only person I have to worry about in that moment is me. Lakini, watu wanawachwa ...

I often wonder how it must feel to be bathed in milk and honey be bathed in the flowers of the season fragrant and honeyed I often wonder how it must feel to have the rug pulled out  from right under your feet have to trust that that is what your purpose is Yet these are both yin and yang light and dark ups and downs the duality that is life that comes at us all Tribute to my aunty❤️

I Live my Life Everyday Like I'm a Legend!

Gooosh, three months down the line! Glad to be writing this while listening to Alusa Why are you Topless? Intro and the first song in na already nafeel I will have trouble picking favourites. It's been a whole three months of so much transformation, hadi siamini. I'm looking at the drafts that I have since the last time I posted and it all makes sense now. The things I wanted to express then, I didn't have the words for them yet. The process was not done processing🤣. Funny how once the lessons are learnt, following the repentance, the point of view makes the most sense. Unless you go through the process, you would not quite acquire the lens to see it that way. They say we all experience different realities. Even while looking at the same thing, we still do not see the same thing. Now I get it! I quit my first ever job in the span of the three months. Felt like I was losing my shit! I have lost relationships so close to my heart, in the span of three months. My world was ...

just wingin' it😰✌🏾

Leo tunamedi na Tems❤️✨ I will wait for you, for yooou!! I guess that is how it just became. Lakini akajifunza huwezi okoa anybody but yourself. And then it became "if you couldn't be reminded baby girl I'm gonna remind you now" and a whole waste of energy. Habits die hard, or whatever they say.  Crazy tings are âppening!!😂 I think the best part about being in love with a particular song is it being able to translate different circumstances that are yet so similar. Hiyo ilikuwa inaitwa aje kwa literature? Juxtaposition I think. So basically, I might not be weak Basically, I might not be falling Basically, I might be used to this. Yoooh! That is exactly how I am feeling sis. Lived and learning... Affirmation for the month: I'm trouble making trouble Trouble is what excites me No one can do it like me Trouble is making trouble If I was the ganja, you bring the lighter Roll in me rizla, Set me on 🔥! Peace😚✌🏾

Narcissist Much!!!

There is an unexplainable sense of bliss when you outplay the player!! Bado sijui ni lesson gani exactly yenye universe unataka nilearn from an experience I am currently going through, but I am here for it; fully emersed. Anyway, the new world order is built on a staggering abundance of narcissism, God complex and victim mentality. What do I even expect if I am part of that matrix🤦🏾‍♀️ Basic human decency seems to be an out-of-this-world-never-existed-ever concept to some ignorant folks out here. To be honest, it's not just sad, but also maddening😤 and sickening🤢 to the pits of my stomach. Hata nimeshindwa kuendelea kutype. So I will just post this as is and do the rest on my journal😌.  Kind Reminder You are better than the crumbs that they keep leaving you. I had actually written give, but hata hizo crumbs huwa hawakupei, ni juu tu hizo ndio zinakuanga zimebaki. Acting like their 'generosity' is what keeps you afloat on this earth.  Sir, Ma'am, heal!!! Then you ge...

Aloe Vera for your Skin: Rashes

Image
Yesterday I realized that I had a rash breakout on my face, neck and shoulders. I really do not know what caused the rash. But ain't I glad I have content. It's been a minute since I wrote one of these. As the title suggests, it is aloe vera for your skin. I have heard and experienced the wonders of this succulent from childhood. Kwa nyumba yetu ungesema unaumwa na tumbo ama meno, you had better be prepared for its bitterness. It works wonders, but that is a whole different post. Leo tunafocus on skin. Harvesting and cleaning the Aloe Vera. Using a knife, carefully cut one leaf at a time. Try ufikie hiyo leaf from where it is sprouting on the stem, ni kama unaing'oa, I hope this will make sence Carefully cut the edges of each harvested leaf so that cleaning can be easier Thoroughly rinse with clean water Benefits of the Aloe Vera gel on your skin. Considering the current state of skin, here are a few of the benefits: Soothing . Aloe vera soothes irritation and preve...

Protect yourself!

Image
I have never been a believer in 'haters'. Ama is it the word itself? I am yet to fully understand. Either way, I know of people who literally dislike others simply because of their existence. And it has never really made sence to me. I find it crazy that I have experienced said negativity in my own life to its extreme, yet I don't believe in 'haters'? Some people out here will go to whatever extent to see you in hell with them. How ignorant of me! I started writing this yesterday afternoon but I couldn't find the best fit words. Even the title was so different. And when I went online in the evening I found something very interesting. When you need the information, it will surely present itself to you. Attached are screenshots of @swiry_nyar_kano instagram stories yesterday: There it was, this piece had written itself. Protect yourself always, ACTIVELY and LOUDLY! Prevention is better than cure, or whatever they say. Peace❤

Because the best is yet to come.

Nilikuwa nafikiria. And I came to realize that I have been taking lightly the meaning to proverbs, vitendawili, kina mababu walisema and all that. Here is one that I really got to ponder over today morning.  "Where there is will, there is a way".  Do you know how many times we forget how literal this statement is?!! Life tends to bombard us left right and center and we hypnotically fall for the illusions. Let me not even start on the opium that is religion and its misinterpreted teachings on the way of life.  We get too immersed in the 'misery', the 'chaos' and forget to see the million other things that could just maybe go better than your current situation.  Ni kama vile kwa End Game, Doctor Strange saw so many other ways that they could kill Thanos and win the war, but the path most preferred was the death of Tony Stark. Why? Because that is the direction that held the highest probability of survival and peace for the collective good. When your life starts...

I Now See

I want to see the matrix falls all around me and my truth comes to life I want to live in the fields of green and yellow and pink I want to sing with the birds and the bees with the waters and the wind I want to explore beyond all boundaries and boarders within and without I want to heal with the plants and the trees and the earth and the skies I want to experience the oneness that is the universe and all its things I want to see the matrix falls all around me and my truth comes to life 😗

When the Bough Breaks

It's been a while since I put my thoughts into words. So let's journal😂. The wheels in my head have been at a constant acceleration mode. It is official, I tend to over think a lot. You would think that I would be at a full understanding of this part of my mind by now lakini heh!  I have been very careful with my choice of words for this post. Because I am intentionally working towards separating the 'I' from 'self'. Illustration, when you observe something or someone that makes you feel angry or happy or sad, you are not angry or happy or sad, you feel  that way but you are not that way. Which brings me to the whole point of when the bough breaks... (complete the proverb, 3 mrks) For the longest I have prided myself as a perfectionist. It has always been the one thing that I have to mention as a strength, as well as a weakness. However, I still did not have the realization I have now.  Hear me out; what are the odds that I need to think and act a certain way t...

It's been overwhelming 😶‍🌫️😮‍💨 to say the least But it has also been exhilarating 🫠 Here is to the preparation of the planting szn🐢🐉

Bananas for Moisturized Skin.

Image
You see those overripe bananas that you just find hard to get down your throat, you do not need to throw them. We are not wasteful here. Ripe bananas are a very versatile fruit. You can make banana bread (recipe coming up very soon) or you can use it for skin, which is our focus today. It is a very easy DIY face mask.  How to... In a bowl place a peeled banana. Using a fork, mash it until consistent. Optional; add in a quarter teaspoonful of turmeric powder.  * personally I prefer the fresh turmeric, pound it like ginger and add it to your banana. * this process can get messy if you are clumsy, so does the application process. do not forget that turmeric stains fabric. Benefits of banana on skin. 1. Moisturizes and hydrates skin. even from the texture, you can just tell that the mask is very hydrating. this is because of the potassium in it.  2. Maintains skin elasticity. The banana mask nourishes the skin and restores strength thus smoothing out aging skin. With t...

Rosemary for Hair.

Image
All-natural everything, huh? So when I plaited my braids my scalp was a little bit itchy, and I don't know why. Since products are pricey I decided to go back to what I had learned during the lockdown. Rosemary is quite affordable around where I stay, so that is what I went with. And it's fresh too. I wish I took pictures of the whole process, next time I will. But thank goodness it's not that complex nor with a lot of steps. So I guess this short article will do just fine.   Benefits of rosemary for your hair (from my experience). 1. Relieves irritated scalp. I have sprayed the rosemary water on my scalp for close to a week and a half now, everyday and it is no longer itchy. Rosemary water is refreshing to your scalp and hair, as much as it is aromatic thus good for aromatherapy- which is a plus. Aaaand, you can also use it to soothe dry, flaky scalp and dandruff . 2. Increases sheen. You know there is a difference between sheen and shine. there are times that you can loo...

FOMO!

February... uweeeeeh. Hata sio February tu, I guess ni 2022. You know that time you are chilling on your phone ukiview status, internet inabuffer so it's just pass, pass, be patient a little, pass. Then there is a particular status or story that catches your attention. And you just want to knooooow, you have to know. So you choose to wait for it to load. At first, you view it out of curiosity. Then you start replaying it, and you replay it, and you replay it. You are in denial, a little bit of the green monster.  FOMO then hits you hard. You start comparing. If you are like me, it calls for a deep dive into the internet🧐. You want to know how often does the particular situation happen in their life. And you want to find out what it is they do that you do not. It becomes a whole lingering, in most cases overbearing, feeling that just eats you from the inside. Unfortunately, we more often than not let it take over us. I vowed to be very intentional this year. Have I been handed a ru...

Clarity, I guess.

"I'm working on consistency." I have really been trying. You know those instances when a bulb lights up in your head and your like I should try to note this down. So I rush to my phone and type a draft, hoping to get back to it as soon as possible. Ooooooops, three weeks later I get back to it and I'm not feeling as I was in that light bulb moment, so I end up deciding to put it off.  Today, I was on a mission to overthink some more about my life🙃. I was questioning my intention for this blog. And I ended up filling my head with so much doubt. I was wondering how come I only want to write about the things I write about (I honestly could not find a word to best describe the things I write). I was so close to reverting the recipes that I have already posted🤦🏿‍♀️ and also changing the introduction to the blog, but then I got a bit of clarity before I could go through with it.  For some reason, I thought that I would end up being monotonous, and I do NOT want this expe...

RECHARGE🍃

Alexa, play breathin' by Ariana Grande. Some days, things just taaake  Way too much of my energy ... Is it just me or is the air in the country fresher, the sky higher and the ground easier to walk on- Caucasian Chalk Circle nostalgia😂😂. Honestly though, what's all that hustle in the city about!! It's just too exhausting.  The excitement that gets me when I hear birds chirp is just exhilarating, the smell of fresh grass early in the morning as the dew evaporates, the smell of fresh soil, the calming wind in the trees. Wachana na vumbi huwa nakula kila siku nikikimbia class* major face palm. Truth be told, I would choose the country over the city through all the lives that I get to live. The peace that I get from being upcountry is unmatched. I really enjoy the lifestyle and the calm vibrations it holds. I am always recharged. And oooh, do I need a recharge.  I just need to breath *long deep breath. Reset. Find my bearing. Manifest too, at my most tranquil state and surr...

STOP TO SMELL THE ROSES.

This particular 'title' has been in my drafts for the longest time. But I never really got the right words for it. Sometimes life gets too carzy that you even forget to live in the moment. So many of my family and friends kept asking what happened to my blog...na vile nilikuwa na psyche🙄. But I honestly think that maybe this is the perfect time to pick it up. So ever since the new year began I have been seeing some angel numbers repeatedly. And they all point to living in the moment and being present. This is something that most of us as young people just fail to do. You wake up do the same thing and go to bed just to wake up and do the same things we did yesterday and the day before... literally like living in a constant loop. Dream ya kutoka kwa block...but we just forget to take sometime to breath. Ni maisha utaishi ama ni pesa utatafuta, na si ati kupata pesa ni rahisi. We are constantly chasing life, forgetting that we still need to live and not just exist.  I have been s...
