As the title suggests, it is aloe vera for your skin. I have heard and experienced the wonders of this succulent from childhood. Kwa nyumba yetu ungesema unaumwa na tumbo ama meno, you had better be prepared for its bitterness. It works wonders, but that is a whole different post. Leo tunafocus on skin.

Harvesting and cleaning the Aloe Vera.

Using a knife, carefully cut one leaf at a time. Try ufikie hiyo leaf from where it is sprouting on the stem, ni kama unaing'oa, I hope this will make sence

Carefully cut the edges of each harvested leaf so that cleaning can be easier

Thoroughly rinse with clean water

Benefits of the Aloe Vera gel on your skin.

Considering the current state of skin, here are a few of the benefits:

Soothing. Aloe vera soothes irritation and prevents inflammation due to the presence of amino acids. Sahi sijikuni as much as I was yesterday morning

Hydrating and moisturizing. Since it is a succulent, aloe vera stores a lot of water in its leaves and stems. This makes it hydrating to the skin, leaving you moisturized and with a glow.

Healing. Aloe Vera contains antioxidants in terms of minerals such as zinc, selenium and Vitamins such as Vitamin C, Folic Acid and Vitamin B-12 that help repair damaged cells and strengthen the skin.

Antimicrobial and antifungal properties. This beautiful plant has certain properties e.g enzymes that may help protect against infections and to an extent clear certain skin conditions.

Some people are allergic to Aloe Vera, test it out first.

Making the aloe gel

You can apply the gel directly from the leaves by splitting them and rubbing it on your face, or you could harvest the gel from the leaves first.

How to...

Split the leaves (along) in the middle

Using a knife or a spoon to scoop the gel into a clean and disinfected container

You could sieve the gel if you want. Using pantyhose material ama kichungi tu

Refrigerate in an airtight container up to a week. The gel colour might change to maroonish after a while, this is no cause for alarm

I hope this helps🙂

Peace✨
