I am Surprise, a storyteller, singer and creative spirit exploring the intersections of art, beauty and truth. My journey flows through many forms; music, writing, creative modeling and sharing lived experiences with others who walk this path of growth and self-discovery. Kwa mtandao, including here on this blog, I open windows into my world: the rhythm of my thoughts, the lessons of my journey, and the quiet strength found in both vulnerability and resilience. I believe that every image, every rhyme, every lyric and every reflection carries the power to heal, to connect and to remind us of our shared humanity. My work is deeply rooted in African philosophy, personal transformation and creative expression . Whether through my writings, reflective posts, music or performance, I aim to create a space where art feels alive, where it isn’t just seen or heard, but felt . This blog is an extension of that vision; a place where words stretch beyond, where stories unfold, and where cre...
Nilikuwa nafikiria. And I came to realize that I have been taking lightly the meaning to proverbs, vitendawili, kina mababu walisema and all that. Here is one that I really got to ponder over today morning. "Where there is will, there is a way". Do you know how many times we forget how literal this statement is?!! Life tends to bombard us left right and center and we hypnotically fall for the illusions. Let me not even start on the opium that is religion and its misinterpreted teachings on the way of life. We get too immersed in the 'misery', the 'chaos' and forget to see the million other things that could just maybe go better than your current situation. Ni kama vile kwa End Game, Doctor Strange saw so many other ways that they could kill Thanos and win the war, but the path most preferred was the death of Tony Stark. Why? Because that is the direction that held the highest probability of survival and peace for the collective good. When your life starts...
I am sure that most of us have been stuffed with matoke while growing up; ama waru au malenge saa zingine zote zapikwa pamoja. Matoke is such a common children's meal to the extent that you find so many people 'outgrowing' it. As for me, I have loved matoke my entire life and seeing that there are so many ways of preparing the dish is just it for me. I have been able to eat those that are washed and boiled with the peels on, then you get to peel, unaweka chumvi and eat it. Maybe with tea au kitoweo chochote kama nyama ama kuku, whatever you prefer. Then there's the mashed bananas which is also so interesting. But today, I wanted to go with stewed matoke accompanied with some french beans. Campus students are always looking for the easiest recipes cos we all know how hard it is to cook while you are living by yourself and trying your best to maintain your adult life; adulting is a scam. So the moment nilienda kwa sister yangu na nikaona kuna matoke I wouldn't pass...
